PhD Student

Research Interest

Charles Lhuillier currently investigates the potential of ammonia (NH3) as a carbon-free and sustainable energy and hydrogen carrier. His experimental work focuses on the fundamental combustion properties of ammonia, as well as its combustion behavior as a Spark-Ignition (SI) engine fuel. Besides providing useful understanding for practical ammonia-fueled systems implementation, the collected data will allow Charles to evaluate the economic and environmental costs of ammonia as a SI engine fuel over its entire life cycle.

Short CV

Charles Lhuillier is an Engineer from Ecole Centrale de Lille and a Master of Science in Aeronautics and Aerospace from TU Berlin since September 2016. His will to actively contribute keeping our environment clean and enjoyable led Charles to embrace the challenges of sustainability in transport and other sectors. With that motivation and his experience in aeroengines and gas turbine combustion, he started a joint PhD thesis between the Université d’Orléans (France) and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium) in late 2017.
