Reduced order chemistry models for the LES of oxy-coal industrial boilers
The oxy-combustion is emerging as the most likely low-cost “clean coal” technology for both NOx and SOx emissions reduction and carbon capture. The use of CFD tools is crucial for the development of cost-effective oxy-fuel technologies and the minimization of environmental concerns. For this reason, it is important to develop simple, reduced but reliable kinetic mechanisms and appropriate combustion models to minimize the computational efforts. The findings of this PhD work will provide the necessary capabilities for the simulation of large-scale oxy-coal systems.
